A random decision maker can come in very useful if you can’t decide, or can’t agree, on where to have lunch. Even though you all may quite happily say ‘I honestly don’t mind where we eat’, there will definitely be some factors which you can decide on, without having to pick the exact restaurant immediately.
If you are eating out with other people, friends, or family perhaps, then sometimes making a random decision can avoid the awkwardness of having to pick one person’s preference over another’s. If you choose to go with what the random decision maker decides then neither of you has to feel guilty, whatever the outcome.
If you want to make the decision on your own then you can make the choice easier by narrowing down your options. Firstly, you can work out how far you are willing to travel to find the perfect lunch. If you want to be able to walk there from where you are then your options will instantly decrease dramatically, making your decision much easier.
You then need to work out how much you are willing to pay for your lunch. If you only have a few dollars to spend, then again you will have a much smaller selection of eating establishments to choose from. If you are looking for something a little more special then you can automatically eliminate any fast food joints. Deciding where to eat lunch suddenly becomes much easier when you realize that you are actually facing a much smaller range of places to choose from.
If you have a choice between two different places then flipping a coin can be an easy way to decide between the two. If you get your choice this time, then maybe you can agree that whoever you are with gets to pick the place you eat next time you go to lunch with them. We often find it hard to choose if we think that someone else is going to be unhappy with our decision. If we want to be polite then we often make a big deal about letting the other person choose so that we don’t appear rude or ungrateful. If they have offered to pay for lunch then this becomes even more of a concern as you don’t want to determine how much they have to spend. However, if you put some rules in place beforehand, for example, making sure that you will be allowed to return the favor, or at least the power to make the choice next time, then you can have your choice without feeling quite as guilty about it.
If you have tried all of these things, narrowed down your search as much as possible, and tried to make everyone else decide without you, then a random decision maker might be the best way forward. It will help you to make a quick and decisive choice which you don’t have to feel guilty about and will save you valuable minutes so that you will have more time to enjoy your lunch, wherever you decide to have it.
